As a christian Should I read the Gnostic Gospels?
The Gnostic Deception As I’ve read many of these books there is a large portion of the gnostic writings that not only seem to be fabricated but seem to have been written to place doubt in the mind of the believer. Many of these writings teach completely different doctrines and concepts than those set forth by the scriptures already.
God is a spirit and those who worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
With the spirit of discernment you can actually feel the intention behind these writings.
But trust as I say gnostic text this also includes other religious text that hold opposing views to who Jesus is and what he has so wonderfully done within the life of the believer. There is nothing for you to learn in these books that will make you more advanced or more learned spiritually.
There is this notion in many of the truther and spiritual circles that glorifies some of these other religions spiritual practices. In light of the western church these other practices seem to be more spiritual and maybe even get you closer to God. I for one can tell you this is the biggest lie that I have seen operating in these circles. They make Christianity look like some simple religion about following rules and regulations and even outdated in its spiritual approach. But I can tell you the truth that relationship with Jesus and an encounter with the living God is in FACT what we are all looking for. The true mystical experience is the christian experience. Jesus and his disciples were some of the most spiritually advance people who walked the face of the Earth. These guys were devoted and although well learned in ancient text and written mysteries they knew that their power was not in simple head knowledge or “gnosis” but in relationship with the Father.
Simon the sorcerer saw the disciples moving in signs and wonders, he actually saw them lay their hands upon people and them receive the gift of the Holy spirit.
This made him envious and he actually tried to buy this power from them but Peter swiftly rebuked him because this level of power and anointing comes only through a life consecrated to the will of God and a life born in the secret chambers of prayer.
It is through intimacy with Jesus and fellowship in the Holy Spirit that we learn what cannot be taught by man.
Now, with this being said there are many books that were once in the Bible that were latter taken out and other books that were held dear by the early church. I for one do find some of these text very useful and some I strongly believe that you cannot fully understand the complex teachings of the Bible without them. 
Some of these text include the Book of Enoch of which is quoted in the Book of Jude and goes extensively into the understanding of how demons and fallen angels now operate in the spirit realm and now on the earth to inflict and influence man. This is a very important book especially if you understand the significance of spiritual warfare. Another book is the book of Jasher. This book as well as the book of Enoch is actually quoted within the Bible. Joshua 10:13 reads And the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, until the nation took vengeance on their enemies. Is this not written in the Book of Jashar? The sun stopped in the midst of heaven and did not hurry to set for about a whole day. There are many other books also mentioned within the Bible written by the prophets and seers of old. I will do another video/blog on this as well in greater detail.
I believe that it is not smart for us to denounce other books that are not within our cannon of scripture but very much so we should be careful of what we let into our minds in every aspect including books and writings that seem either harmless or hold some truth that excites us.
Again, if we are hungry for the secret things of God it is thought communion with the Holy Spirit that we find such majestic hidden truths. One of the names or characteristics of the holy spirit is the teacher and the promise is that he will lead us and guide us into all truth. Jeremiah 33:3 states that if we call out to God, that he would show us great and mighty things that we do not know and cannot find out.
